Take lots of water. For clean up and drink off it's warm. Take munchies. Small shovels. A cart/wagon might be handy. Homer buckets make good seats. You're gonna get dirty. Most of all... Have fun!

Sunblock. Bucket hats. I wore a long sleeve moisture wicking shirt and I'm definitely glad I did.

You'll find them in as singles or in clusters. If you think you've found a a cluster, keep splashing water on it until the entire thing is exposed. If you try to pull it before it's entirely exposed, you risk breaking it. The singles make great Christmas tree ornaments, just hot clue a ornament hook to the top and hang it in front of a Christmas tree light. It will actually be cooler there when it's hot than anywhere else around since white reflects the sun light rather than absorb it. I've been several times in the 90-100 degree range and staying cool enough isn't a problem plus the wind is always blowing there.
Well, I found out a little while ago that I’m in charge of entertaining my brother, sister in law, and his kids tomorrow, so there’s a pretty good chance crystal digging will be on the itinerary.
