Anyone tried these in a Savage model 11? I got a my 10 year old a Model 11 youth in 243 last month and figured the superformance 58 grainers zipping along 3900/ft sec would be the perfect coyote factory load to try that weekend. The best we could get out of them was about 3" group at 75 yards. :anyone:

Another idea was to keep the recoil as low as possible so I could get him shooting the rifle with confidence before moving him up in bullet weight.

Check the brass prep..and also the OAL .I bet you can't seat them very close to the lands.
If you could seat them with .010" jump or so they may tighten up...my 87v max does not like to jump very far.
I set them to jump .100" and group opened to 8" VS the .6" it gets at .010"
best groups are at .010" completely off the lands...No marks on a painted bullet when chambered ..paint is black sharpie.

Now i like my brass to all have the same neck ID For best groups.
I set my .243 at .2415-.242" neck ID
Another issue may be the bullet is not stable yet at 75 yards.. i hear some will print tighter at 150-200 yards than they do at 100 yards..
My .308 with certain bullets will group tighter at 100yards than it does 50 yards.

my model 11 doesnt like any bullet small than 75gr. any bullet 75gr up to 100gr it will shoot amazing. drop below it and it is lucky to keep them within a 3 inch pattern...

depends on the twist rate of the barrel. I have a very slow twist, around 1 in 13 and it loves the smaller bullets. I can print a 5 round cloverleaf at 100 yards with factory SuperPerformance, but can't stabilize the 90+ grainers at all.

Here is what my 1:10 243 likes..2 different loads same bullet 87gr Vmax 37.5gr of the 2012 imr4064 This powder has multi size sticks and small flake stuff in it.... Then 42gr H4350 from 1994 This was R-P brass 2.705 OAL 210M primers
I fired at the same spot at 100 yards with both loads..3 shots of each load. That is .440" tall center to center and .380" wide center to center...That is my go to bullet...This is actually the wife's gun i got for her..as she don't like the .308 or 30-06 kick
That is .010" completely off the lands in that rifle..Mossberg 100atr bolt action

is he even handloading? I haven't seen anywhere he suggested he was handloading these? you keep referring to the 87gr swampratt, and he's asking about 58s. two completely different critters

OH CRAP! I was assuming he was using superformance powder and 58gr hornady bullets.
Since he was trying to keep recoil low..Most factory rounds chase the upper end loads...

I will ask next time if those are hand loads...And quit assuming everyone looking for super tight groups hand loads.
The loads i posted are mid range loads.BTW

Sorry for the assumptions Fluxed hope you find what works in that bad boy

Man, Im just happy someone spoke up and got involved in the thread :)

These are for my youngest son. We bought factory loaded superformance 58's by Hornady. But reloading is certainly a possibility. I am always happy to get any recipe that is working well for others.

I am going to grab some loaded 87's and maybe even something larger for this weekend. I will report what they do vs the 58's.

thanks
