OKEMAH, Okla. -- The FBI and Oklahoma Highway Patrol are investigating what appears to be a possible improvised explosive device with a timing mechanism fastened to a gas well 2 miles south of Okemah.
The Okfuskee County Sheriff’s Department says it is 2 miles southeast of Okemah.
Authorities are shutting down state highway 27 as a precaution while they investigate.

OKEMAH, Okla. -- Authorities have ruled the possible explosive device inert. A bomb robot examined the object found on a gas line in Okfuskee County to determine if it was a threat.

Parts of the area were evacuated after authorities found what is reported to be a pipe bomb.

OKC FBI agent Clay Simmonds said a sherriff's deputy found the device at 11 a.m.

He said the deputy concluded it might be a bomb after seeing a timer attached to it.

Agent Simmonds said he wasn't sure how the bomb was discovered, if it was found during a routine patrol or a tip was called in.

Crude bomb left on Oklahoma gas line, FBI says
