I always have several metal coffee cans (plastic ones work as well) with the bottom cut out for thisMy guess also. I was in hand to hand combat with Cutworms taking out my cucumbers last year. Planted 3 times before I got smart - I took metal flashing and made a ring around each cucumber hill; buried it about an inch deep. The “wall” kept the invaders out.
