Okay, here's the deal: I have found places in both Oklahoma state code and US code that say it is illegal to sell to someone who is a "juvenile" (it states that the term "juvenile" means a person under 18). I am assuming that this means it is legal to sell to someone over 18?

Your thoughts are really appreciated!

Here are the links:

US Code

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=browse_usc&docid=Cite:+18USC922

It's section (x) (1) found on page 209 and reads, "It shall be unlawful for a person to sell, deliver, or
otherwise transfer to a person who the transferor knows or has
reasonable cause to believe is a juvenile--
(A) a handgun; or
(B) ammunition that is suitable for use only in a handgun.
"

OK State Title

http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os21.rtf

It is found on page 378 and specifically is 21-1273 (A). It reads, "It shall be unlawful for any person within this state to sell or give to any child any of the arms or weapons designated in Section 1272 of this title; provided, the provisions of this section shall not prohibit a parent from giving his or her child a rifle or shotgun for participation in hunting animals or fowl, hunter safety classes, target shooting, skeet, trap or other recognized sporting events, except as provided in subsection B of this section"

Thanks again!

That's pretty confusing. If it were me, with the reputation the ATF has for entrapment, I don't think I'd engage in anything remotely resembling a questionable transaction. And if the ATF is reading this thread, my house sank last spring along with my guns. (I lived on a houseboat.)

I just returned from 2 gun shops and both confirmed that it was legal via private transaction.

I know what you mean though, Tom's Thumb, good point!

Thanks for the advice so far! Has anyone out there actually done a transaction with someone 18-21 years old? I guess it's not very common

I always thought that under 21, you can only purchase a rifle. You have to be 21 to purchase any kind of handgun and 23 to apply for conceal carry.

You always thought wrong.

21 to purchase a handgun from a dealer. 21 to receive a CCW permit.

Just use good judgment when selling weapons through private transactions and you will be OKAY. :burnout:

Nope - officially, you cannot purchase a pistol from a dealer (FFL) if you're under 18 as the 4473 check and dealer restrictions don't allow for it.

As to the OP - you should have kept reading that particular US Code - the age "21" has nothing to do with a juvenile:

(5) For purposes of this subsection, the term ``juvenile'' means a
person who is less than 18 years of age.

That being said, there's a big difference in selling a gun to an 18 year old who is still in high-school and living with their parents and one to a 20 year old who is a responsible citizen, living on their own and married or holding down a full-time job, etc...
