I had a nighthawk firehawk for about a year and ended up selling it still kinda kicking myself for it haha but I’m more into the classic 1911 style so I’ve been debating on picking up a les baer I found one for a crazy good deal

I haven’t handle many Baers, but ones that I have seemed to be lacking in the dehorning department. Perhaps, they are more comfortable to shoot than they look.

I wish more custom 1911 smiths used the A1 back strap. So much more comfortable in my hands.

Of the ones I’ve owned, Baers are the least “refined” of all the semi custom 1911’s, but for me, they’re the easiest to shoot well.

My TRS, VZ Super Scoop grips, 10-8 rear sight, Dawson Fiber front and I think a Kimber mag well from the parts box.
Never a bit of problems, probably 5k rounds thru it. Best value for the money even today. Other makers are way higher now. My first high end 1911 and still in the safe.
Also had an Ed Brown commander with a bobtail bottom. Beautiful gun but the bobtail did not work for me. Also had a Wilson Combat in 9mm cannot remember the model but a beautiful gun, two tone and a real shooter. Had to sell it when the boat that my wife and son in law bought and promised they would pay for everything needed major repairs. They agreed it was only fair for me to cover the repairs since neither had the money. Sort of like the puppy the kids bring home but more expensive!
Bummer as it was a beautiful gun and a real shooter. Shot a perfect double on a 7 yard head shot in a match, I knew it when I broke the second shot and people standing behind me agreed but the RO would not let it go and called it a miss since there was only one hole. Very annoying to make a great shot and get penalized for it!
