The problem with this is that multiplication and division are equal, and should therefore be processed from left to right. You can see it if you rewrite 8/2 as the equally valid 8 x 1/2:1. 8/2 (2+2) =_____
Parenthesis: 8/2 (2+2) -> 8/2 (4)
Multiplication: 8/2 (4) -> 8/2x(4) -> 8/ 8 (note: without an explicit operator - I'm assuming the 2 and (4) are multiplied)
Division: 8/ 8 -> 1
8 x 1/2 x (2 + 2) = 8 x 1/2 x 4 = 4 x 4 = 16
For your solution to be valid, the equation would have to be written:
8/(2 x (2+2))
because, in this notation, you need a grouping operator, as the "/" does not serve that function.
