1. 8/2 (2+2) =_____
Parenthesis: 8/2 (2+2) -> 8/2 (4)
Multiplication: 8/2 (4) -> 8/2x(4) -> 8/ 8 (note: without an explicit operator - I'm assuming the 2 and (4) are multiplied)
Division: 8/ 8 -> 1
The problem with this is that multiplication and division are equal, and should therefore be processed from left to right. You can see it if you rewrite 8/2 as the equally valid 8 x 1/2:
8 x 1/2 x (2 + 2) = 8 x 1/2 x 4 = 4 x 4 = 16

For your solution to be valid, the equation would have to be written:
8/(2 x (2+2))
because, in this notation, you need a grouping operator, as the "/" does not serve that function.

Oh, and screw you for making me do math.

I hate math.

Oh, believe me, so do I! And math hates me back just as much if not more. I just did this out of mean-ness and shortly after they hit my IV line with a boatload of the strong stuff. Felt like the insides muh head was all fuzzy, and kinda drippy-warm...

1. 8/2 (2+2) = 1
2. 6/2 (1+2) = 1
3. The ball is 5 cents. ($ 0.05)

Order of Operations: PMDAS (Parenthesis, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) ...in that order.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations

1. 8/2 (2+2) =_____
Parenthesis: 8/2 (2+2) -> 8/2 (4)
Multiplication: 8/2 (4) -> 8/2x(4) -> 8/ 8 (note: without an explicit operator - I'm assuming the 2 and (4) are multiplied)
Division: 8/ 8 -> 1

2. 6/2 (1+2) =_____
Parenthesis: 6/2 (1+2) -> 6/2 (3)
Multiplication: 6/2 (3) -> 6/2x(3) -> 6/ 6 (note:without an explicit operator - I'm assuming the 2 and (3) are multiplied)
Division: 6/ 6 -> 1

3. Little Johnny stole some money from his momma to buy a ball and a bat. The total he spent to buy the bat and ball out of the money he stole was $1.10. The bat costs one dollar more than the ball. So how much did that thievin’ punk-ass scumbag Little Johnnie have to pay for the ball?
Total spent: 1.10.
Ball costs: X
Bat costs: X + 1

Total spent was: Ball + Bat = $1.10 -> (X) + (X+1) = 1.10
(X) + (X+1) -> 2X +1
2X + 1 = 1.10 -> 2X = 1.10 -1
2X=.10 -> X=0.05

Therefore:
Ball = X = 0.05.
Bat = X + 1 = 0.05 + 1 = 1.05
The confusion for some people come because order of operations is sometimes taught as BEDMAS and BODMAS. These are mentioned in your wiki link. Both alternatives put division ahead of multication.

Nah, spoken like someone who learned math when it was still math rather than social justice programming.

Also spoken like someone who was trained in FORTRAN programming back in the day.
Jesus , I havent heard a reference to the Formula Translation name in a while. Right up there with COBOL and BASIC , haven’t heard those names in decades
