Michael Behenna Released On Parole

EDMOND, Oklahoma - After five years in military prison, a former U.S. Army lieutenant from Oklahoma who was convicted of killing an Iraqi prisoner is returning home to his family.

Thirty-year-old Michael Behenna was granted parole in February after serving five years of his 15-year sentence for unpremeditated murder in a combat zone. He will be released from Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., Friday morning.

Behenna and his family will be escorted from the Oklahoma state line to Edmond by Patriot Guard Riders and proceed to a private family gathering.

The Army Clemency and Parole Board in February denied Behenna's request for clemency but granted him parole. Col. David Patterson has said the decision was based on factors that includes a strong parole plan with family and community support.

Just heard on KTOK 1000 AM that the biker group, State Honor Guard Riders (I think the name is correct) will escort he and the family from the KS state line to family's home in Edmond today!

Im not sure what to think about this. Not sure id give him a hero's welcome but I do think he should be paroled, just maybe not clemency. For sure the guy made decisions that he now must live with.

I believe he is an American Hero. Granted I wasnt there during the death of an Al Qaeda operative. However from what I read in the past I believe the death was in self defense, and the military withheld credible evidence.

May I suggest you ask him to come, don't, DON'T ask about what happened, which I think you would not anyway. He wants I am guessing to remember the old days and get on with his life. I have a younger, much younger friend who I treasure he and his wife dearly. My friend was in the military in an elite unit. I NEVER ask him what he did. He does not want to talk of it. He has not said he does not, but I know from conversations with him and so forth THEY do not want to talk of it. Just sayin', kinda' like the guys coming back from any war, if you will.
