How many files? 30? 300? 3000+?
(We don't need to know...)

- Copy the files to thumb drive (or dvd) and take it to a friend's house. (That has Win11)
- Open files and 'save-as' older word file type.
- Move the converted files (older file type) back to thumb drive.

- Open using other word document software.

Good luck.

Yeah, Apache Open Office will automatically read and open MS Word documents. And while it can change the extention, you can choose not to. I've used it for years.

Libre Office was created by the same people, so I'm sure it's just as good.
