How are the animals doing, it is getting pretty chilly.

Since the Sheriff got involved, they have been doing better. They put on some weight and don't look emaciated. That said, the guy hasn't brought in any hay for the winter and since the 'grass' isn't growing anymore, I hope he brings some in real soon.

Still no shelter. Maybe the cattle will mill around each other like the penguins do on Antarctica when it gets real cold. :freezing::freezing::freezing::freezing:

UPDATE:

There has been no hay or water(other than puddles since the rain) for the last two weeks. There is also a dead cow laying in the middle of where the last of the hay was.

We notified the sheriff and a deputy came out to verify the situation.

Rumor has it that the owner of the cattle and horses is being foreclosed upon. I wish he had done something with the cattle before he got in this difficulty. Surely a person ought to be able to see something like this coming when there is no money to pay a mortgage and buy feed.

Sounds like the police are only able to write fines and not change the situation much.
Guy needs to sell them critters.
News channels always looking for a good story and stuff gets done after a good story.

If you can't feed them then sell or give them away or kill and eat them. But do not let them suffer.

He could have given the animals away to somebody that had the means to care for them.
Exactly. Instead of letting them starve to death, there were probably a dozen ranchers in the area that would have rounded them up and moved to greener pastures.
We had a guy that ran out of money east of us that let horses over graze their lot and he lost them after enough complaints. He basically opened the gate for anybody that wanted one and then waited out his court date. He only got probation.
