HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The Coronavirus pandemic is taking an especially deadly toll on state nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

Deaths from these places alone have accounted for 68.6 percent of all deaths in the state as of Tuesday, according to state data.

I happened upon an article on history.com about the 1918 pandemic.

The only therapeutic drug of the time was aspirin.
Aspirin lowered the temp slightly and provided some small relief from the aches and chills.

It was common practice at the time for doctors to prescribe up to 30 grams of aspirin a day.
That is 92 full strength aspirin tablets.
These days only 5 grams of aspirin is considered toxic.
It's likely that aspirin toxicity contributed to some of the hundreds of thousands of deaths in the US.
We will never know for sure.

Grains or grams? gr is abbreviation for grains, grains was the old apothecary measurement and in use at that time.

I calculated it this way...

1 gram = 1,000 milligrams
30 grams = 30,000 milligrams

regular adult strength aspirin tablet = 325 milligrams
30,000 milligrams / 325 = 92.3 tablets

In addition to the pulmonary edema it must have caused many cases of internal bleeding and liver damage.

Yeah wasn't questioning your math, was curious about the article's math.
