The qualification requirement for prison guards would depend on budget allowances and the wardens’ interest, professionalism. Versus the wardens political concerns, I believe. As with most LEO’s, can’t help wondering how many corrections officers are avid shooters, had any significant training, regular practice. No offense meant. I know how high the cost of ammo is.

The barrel band on a Ruger .44 Carbine is the only thing holding the barrel in the stock. The receiver is held in with a lug on the back end. I would expect the barrel without band to jump out of the stock forearm. Unless you could somehow anchor the front end of the receiver to the stock and free float the barrel, I don’t see improving accuracy. I had one in the 1970s that would put 5 180 Sierra JHP reloads into a silver dollar at 100 yds with a 2.5 power scope. I just acquired another one I haven’t had time to work with yet.
