Update.

Thanks to Boomershooter I ended up with a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 After looking into other options I could of spent 1700 for the Canon counterpart and the Tokina still reviews as a better unit. It was kinda hard to locate though. Everyone pretty much stays out of stock on them

Awesome - tell us what you think after you snap some pics - you will love it - the build quality is top notch and image quality is the best out there esp for the price

the 17-50 2.8 will work fine for what you want it for, I personally like the 17-40f/4L and if you ever decide to go to full frame, it will work great on it. I use a Canon MkII 1DS, a MKII 1D, a 40D, but I started on a XTi. I shoot Model photography exclusively but have done my share of landscape, birds wildlife, etc
