Ive been in the market for a red dot and have a few items in mind but havent been able to pull the trigger on one yet. Before I get the aim point EOtech replies, let me make it clear that those are out of my price range. I'm sporting a flat top Armalite with A2 front sight and magpul pop up rear sight so no matter what I will have a set of reliable sights if all else fails. However, I'm want some input so I hopefully don't have to rely on the iron's.

I've had a bushnell trophy Red dot and didn't have a problem with it but was looking at the vortex. Any input would be appreciated.

Search this section for this same subject. This has been discussed so many times that there are several folks who just don't post in them anymore (not trying to be a jerk or anything).

This is a a copy/paste from another post I made a while back:

Budget Red-Dot optics (Meaning under $300).

Vortex Strikefire

IOR/Valdada Edge

IOR/Valdada MicroEdge

(Don't let the MSRP fool you - both of these are cheaper on most retail sites like Optics Planet and SWFA).

Millet DMS-1

Millet Zoom Dot (I don't know if this one is even being made anymore)

Burris XTR Red dot (this one is pretty much priced out of budget-territory in my opinion).

Burris AR 332 Magnified illuminated (priced even higher than the XTR).

Burris 1x FastFire (I know its not a typical primary rifle sight, but its a viable option).

Bushnell Trophy 1x32 Red Dot (acog look-alike)

Bushnell Holosight (EOTech look-alike)

I'm hesitant to put either of the Bushnell optics on here since both have had issues in online reviews and hardcore testing, but they're worthy of a look at least.

Primary Arms 1-4x32 illuminated (etched-glass) scope

Primary Arms M3-style Red Dot (there are actually a few variations of this one including multi-reticle)

Primary Arms M4-style Red Dot

Primary Arms Micro Red dot (there are a few different version of this one as well)
I've got a micro and an M3-style and love both of them.

Nikon 1.5-5x36 Ballistic Turkey Reticle (this one is cool because it has the words "Ballistic Turkey Reticle" in it)

I just bought a Burris XTR from Midway for $119. It was on special. Too good a deal to pass up, and so far it's a great alternative to the Aimpoint that I stupidly sold. :grumble:

Currently it's on my Nordic upper. I'm going to put it on a open revolver I'm building. :rubhands:

It's almost like my Aimpoint Comp M2 that I had, a pretty good clone. Except it has a 5 MOA dot so it's not real great for precision shooting at distance but should be fine for action games and great for brush hunting. The dot is actually clearer than my Aimpoint was if you can believe it and just like the Aimpoint, it's a true 1x...meaning two eyes open shooting is effortless.
