Senate republicans give Obama new powers, but they are still classified.

How can they legally do this? This effects all of us, yet we are not allowed to see it and tell our reps how we want them to vote. That is the whole point of a republic. Not that they ever listen, but still. Once a trade agreement is in place, it cannot be changed. NAFTA did not work out well for us, it sent a lot of jobs to mejico.

They write the laws and legislative procedures and have a thousand ways to shove unpopular aspects under the carpet. Ultimately they can do such things because enough people do not object loudly enough and do not hold them accountable.

They have a plan:

House GOP leaders seeking to rebound after a surprise floor defeat on trade are zeroing in on a new strategy to grant President Obama fast-track authority.

The plan is to vote as soon as this week on the fast-track bill approved by the House on Friday but to leave aside a second part of the original package that was torpedoed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other Democrats.

Decoupling fast-track from a separate program granting aid to workers displaced by trade would put pressure on the Senate to pass the legislation, a top priority for Obama that would allow him to complete negotiations on a sweeping trans-Pacific trade deal.

If the House is successful, it will be up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to get the bill through the upper chamber.

McConnell, Obama and Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) have been discussing their options this week, and McConnell on Tuesday expressed optimism that fast-track, also known as trade promotion authority (TPA), will become law.

“The Speaker and I have spoken with the president about the way forward on trade,” McConnell told reporters. “It’s still my hope that we can achieve what we’ve set out to achieve together, which is to get a six-year trade promotion authority bill in place that will advantage the next occupant of the White House as well as this one.”

“We’ve not given up passing TPA. We think it’s an important accomplishment for the country,” he said.

Sen. Sessions made it even more emphatic, saying that fast track “authorizes the president to form a new transnational governance structure. … It confers the power to both compel and restrict changes to U.S. policy, to commit the U.S. to international obligations, and to cede sovereign authority to a foreign body.” This new global body could even add new member countries (such as China).

Attacked, debased, maligned and vilified: This foundational institution is fighting for its life. Order Phyllis Schlafly’s latest book, “Who Killed the American Family?” along with her updated classic, “A Choice, not an Echo”

Sessions continued: “Congress would be pre-clearing a political and economic union before a word of that arrangement has been made available to a single private citizen. This has the earmarks of a nascent European Union,” and Americans certainly don’t want to belong to a European union (that’s why we fought the American Revolution).

Remember all those sovereign European countries that lost their independence to trade deals that created the E.U.?

We all know deep down that this will ultimately be good for a few VERY rich people and bad for everyone else. Anyone who's willing to trade what little good will come of it for all the stuff they want to conceal, is one of the useful idiots they count on. :(

Got to love those "conservatives", looks like the republicans are less than or equal to obama. Gocktogo, the useful idiots have breeded and multiplied to a hazardous level.

Republican leaders will try to resurrect the trade deal Democrats sank less than a week ago, planning a new vote Thursday and insisting they will corral enough votes to approve fast-track negotiating powers President Obama needs to complete a legacy-building Pacific Rim trade deal.
