This ****ing drain won't stop leaking

Hey if it stops the leaking, I don't care who knows I used it.

So between the gasket and ceramic, yeah? Asking for a friend

I do think the flange nut is pretty dang loose looking. I usually squish those gaskets down much tighter than what you have on there.

But I keep looking at it and it's weird for some reason...it doesn't look right

Sometimes the threads are not cut far enough and the nut bottoms out before it gets tight enough

I know what it is now. That's a flange gasket for a toilet tank to bowl.
Every sink I've worked on or kit I've bought has a flat rubber gasket with a flange nut and putty or a fat oring gets stuffed into the space between the threads and the ceramic.

Every single toilet repair kit has that same kind of flange gasket. I've never seen that on any sink drain I've used, but maybe it's in some. It's still not very tight looking.

Had one just recently that did that switched to an all metal assembly and took care of it ! i think its is just the way they mould the sinks that is the problem! sorry for your hassle

Hence the plumber's putty.

Plus, plumbers putty works wonders.

That was what I was going to post also. I use it on every sink I do drain work on. It always works if the gasket is in the correct place.

Might be a factory **** up, because that gasket came out of an unopened sink drain kit.
