Are cancer deaths dropping do to advances in the chemo meds or more early detection? I believe its more so the latter. They push early detection like regular checks at the OBGYN for women and everyone to get a colonoscopy by age XX, etc. Now they have full body scans that detect a tumor and those scans are priced so anyone should be able to have one. The advancment of Proton therapy and improvements in Radiation also are factors. Big Phama creates customers, not cures. You are right about cancer rates rising, but the survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years, due to those evil pharmaceutical companies. The primary reason for the increase in cases is that people are living longer, again partially due to advances in meds. The last ten years of my career, I was with a 150 year old international company where one division is part of "Big Pharma". I spent a great deal of time working with that division, in their US research facility, talking with the doctors, researchers, etc. Those folks' primary daily thought is finding cures to the various things that plague us. I have total confidence in their efforts. Another interesting aspect of that business, is the amount of time spent waiting for .gov paperwork/approval. Then once a med is approved, they have only a few years to recover the millions/billions spent in the development, testing, and paperwork before the drug go generic. Revenues are indeed high, however profits are not always anywhere near what the public believes.
