I hear the same **** everyday.

I work at 9th and Broadway in downtown OKC. I'd say within 500 yards is a halfway house. Our alleyway out back is the only place they let us smokers go. Naturally, everytime I exit the building to get a few minutes from work and a quick puff I get hit up for change/bus fair/booze money/cigarettes.

Every once in awhile I'll let someone bum a cigarette, but I sure do hate having to deal with it on a daily basis. I'm already pissed I'm at work and not taking a nap, the last thing I want to see is for you to walk out of your home, walk over to me, and then tell me your car is broken down/you need a smoke/you need my money.

There was a family of hustlers in the 90s that hustled the Elk City Police Dept. The officers dug into their pockets to help out a family and get them on their way. It turned out they were hustled by some gyspies for about $100. Needless to say the next bum that showed up wanting help did not get it.

You talk about some P*ssed Off cops, if they had spotted that car again I am not sure what those country cops would have done to them. I believe even the Chief donated some cash.

When they want money for food I offer to buy some, that usually send them on their way.:D

Guy at the Conoco? on I-240 and Walker has a Harley Sportster with his roll strapped to the back. Havent looked lately, but he was there for a good few weeks that I know of. Dont understand how dude can sit there trying to bum money when he has a Harley.

I have seen him many times. There's a guy that has been begging for money at I-240 & May for years.

I get hit up everytime I am in Wal Mart parking lots, yes my wife drags me there.

now people ask me for cigs, I don't smoke...

There was a family that begged in S OKC for a while, over where the old Rich Tires was, and along 104th. Guy had a sign saying he got layed off. Saw a help wanted sign in front of the building he was hustlin at. One night, he had the whole family in the back of a newer minivan, gate open, with them eating about 40 bucks worth of KFC and Route 44's. Guy was eating better than me, no way he was getting my money.

I always just keep one of those "I'm deaf, please donate" cards in my pocket. Just act like you can't hear them and hand that to them. They'll leave you alone.

I'm just kidding. I don't have one of those cards.

QT north of admiral and Sheridan guy walked up to me while I was pumping gas asking for gas money. He was holding a one gallon gas can and told a quick sob story about trying to get home across town. I said open your gas can and Ill fill up your can. He did but looked disappointed, confused and a little angry.

cold, dark
Me and a gf were living in Henderson,NV out by the airport near Vegas and I had been working on my Mustang one hot summer day doing a brake job on it on my day off from the tattoo shop we ran. When I got the job all finished I decided to run to the convenience store down the street and get something cold to drink. My clothes and hands were all nasty and dirty and I was sweating really bad because it was hot as hell outside. I came outside the store with my drink and sat down on the curb beside my car to drink my Big Gulp. This man and woman drive up in a really nice BMW dressed in fancy clothes and they get out of the car. As they are walking by me the man stops, digs in his pocket, then hands me a crumpled $20 bill and says, "here, hope this helps buddy", and they walk off into the store. WTF? I never said a word to them. And I probably had more sitting in the bank than they did. But did I keep the $20 or give it back to them when they came out? Fck that. I got in my car and went home- with the $20 bill. I figured them to be couple of out of town vacationers who probably had a good day at the casino and were celebrating their good fortune. Whatever. My lucky day is all I know.

Ive done alot of messed up stuff over the years so I really need to push my karma in the 'good' direction. I may not give bums money at QT but I do try to put something in the kettle in front of the store at Xmas when I can. Im not a Christian or even spiritual, I just feel like since I am in good shape financially I should give back some way even if its just a few bucks in a kettle at Xmas. I have a few other places where I give a little here and there too during the year. I know you cant buy karma but I also know that paying it forward some way any way you can is the right thing to do if you have some extra cash. Ive made my own way in this world since HS and have been pretty successful and I have also inherited money too, so giving some of it away isnt going to hurt me and it feels good when I can do it. But giving it away to some street hustler though is not my idea of charity and I wont play their games. When I say no to these people it doesnt make feel one bit guilty.

When I was young and dumb, or I could say before my faith in mankind had bees destroyed, I threw money at the cardboard billboard hustlers posing as urban outdoorsmen. The "vet" ones always swindled me.

My first experience with the verbal street hustle story took place in Houston. Guy comes up to me in a parking lot. I'm sitting in my truck, he approaches my rolled down window and starts his story. His car "with wife and kids in it" is broke down on the highway nearby. He is twenty dollars short from having enough for the new alternator. He even took down my address so he could return my twenty dollar loan. He knew the town I lived in, his sister lived there. Hook, line, and sinker! I never saw my twenty dollars.

Since that time period in my life, I've been educated. Upon my face, I wear a look of disgust for my fellow man. So, I very rarely get approached. The last time was in a Target parking lot in OKC. I'm loading my kids in the car, my distrust of people helps me to stay alert of my surroundings, I see bum coming towards me, I turn to confront bum, "Stop" with hand raised. He knows I will not respond in a positive manner if he continues towards me and my children. The end.

Is it sad that I have no shame for my lack of faith in mankind? Bah humbug!
