Yea, the political/economic situation seems really to discourage saving. That's part of my reasoning for the boat, like you I'm pretty young (27) and I don't foresee this country being able to survive the path it's on. It's kinda my escape plan

Seems we're cut from the same cloth. I didn't think I would survive our owners extremely stupid/risky/poor money decisions, and he ended up folding. Bank took all of our stuff, but decided to bring in some brass. They were able to expedite our extremely poor GManager, hire someone who could lead, and five years later it's back to the awesomeness it was when I first came on. Now, to come back from the across the board flat pay cuts we all took over the years for the good of the company. (those golfing trips to Scotland don't come free you know) The only saving grace there was never taking debt in my 30 years.

The dream has started, got 160 acres, house paid for. A few good horses, some cows (need more). A loving wife, great kids. . .

Yup, this is where we are heading. At some point, we hope to really simplify.160 acres or more hopefully in Alaska backed up to some USFS land, Small bush plane to get around and train new pilots in. use the Mooney to come visit the kids or go someplace sunny and 75. I know a lot of pilots dream about flying the big Iron, or the fast corp. jets - that's not me. I'd rather be an instructor. Maybe do some deliveries on the side.

The dream is Alaska, Montana, Wyoming. . Cold, mountains, trees. We can bring the rest.

Subsistence lifestyle is something both my wife and I are in love with. We are both willing to live lean and learn.

Gynecologist to the stars!!!

And your first client is Rosie O'Donnell. :D

Mine is to have a cabin on a wooded shoreline with a dock and a decent boat. Somewhere that it never gets below 40 or above 80 degrees. Someplace with lots of sunshine and no tourons (tourist morons). Someplace where I can take amazing scenic photos, yet still get to a place with supplies in less than an hour.

That's mine...

I've already lived or am living 3/4 of mine. Married my best friend, home is almost paid off, very little to no debt, plenty of education for both of us, enjoying life.

I use to be the type of person that when I looked up or took on a challenge I followed it through.

Example: motorcycle endorsement, scuba certified, 40 hr.hazwoper, and a few others...one I really had fun with was obtaining my class A CDL with double, triples, tanker and hazmat endorsement. I don't drive a truck but I wanted an A-CDL...in case I ws sick of the "professional" life and wanted to do something different.

Well, I'm glad I did it....my last (1/4) portion of my dream is to get a passenger endorsement.

When I retire from the state, we are moving to Vegas. I will be one of those old guys who picks you up at the airport and delivers you to the casino and vice versa. Then I maybe a driver delivering frozen shrimp, seafood, and other commodities to the casinos for their buffets.

Who knows...maybe even driving a limo for a company or a casino??!! Deliver parts, food, school commodities anything.

Something, anything (except driving a cab) to do with driving and living in Vegas. That's my dream retirement job!!!

Move to Utah or northern Nevada hunt giant mule deer. Hunt sheep and mountain goats in either British Columbia or the Yukon Territory as often as possible. Hunt ibex and Marco Polo argali in one of the Stan's or mongolia harvest an archery muzzleloader and rifle slam of sheep. Hunt elk on the white mountain Rez. Kill a polar bear and musk ox. Spend a winter above the arctic circle. Go to china and hunt blue sheep. Harvest a Kamchatka nine foot bear. Spend a year above timberline in the Tetons or bearthooth mountains. Die knowing that I lived with no reservations and hunted some awesome mountain creatures. Those are the things I dream of.
