Kel-Tec Su-16 maybe. Or a basic, old-school, A1-style AR. You can put an optic on the Kel-Tec and it folds in half. It has a built-in bipod up front and decent sights. Plus it takes AR mags and stores a mag or two, depending on size, in the stock. Really simple and really reliable. As you can see it's very light, too.

But, it's pretty hard to beat a basic AR. Nothing to worry about anyone fiddling with your sights, no optics with batteries and such to worry about.

I'd take the Kel-Tec, though, I think.

Just get a 13.7 or 14.5 pin and weld AR in 556, Buttstock and pistol grip of your liking. BCM is great, reliable, and reasonably priced. Their pencil barrels are supposed to be pretty light builds. I love their furniture. I went with Sons of Liberty recently because I got a good deal on a a blemished stripped upper/lower set.

Pick a Good forend, slap a good light on it.
Or just buy a complete BCM or sons of Liberty rifle, slap a light on it.

Cheap: $100 streamlight.
Good: $200 surefire
Pricey: $400 cloud defensive, mod light, or arisanka setup.

Put a good red dot on it.
Cheap: holosun 510 or AEMS
Medium: aimpoint
High: Trijicon or aimpoint

Shoot it a bunch. Polish the trigger a bit, enjoy.

Big M1 Carbine fan, light and fast.

Kel-Tec sub-2000 is an awesome defensive weapon.

AR in .300 BO would be my 3rd choice as acceptable for your requirements.

A Marlin Camp gun would fit the parameters, also. In .45 ACP, outstanding.
