Just recently started fishing this last summer and have been thinking about trying to do some crappie fishing this week at some local ponds. Anyone have any pointers on finding crappie this time of year. I will either be bank fishing or if I am brave enough fishing from a kayak. Thanks in advance.

If I wasn't down with some flu bug or something, I might have been out catching some today. Winds in the NC part of the state around 6mph at Kaw lake.

I can't tell you about ponds, but in the lakes, the crappie will be around 18-30' deep around submerged trees or brush piles. If there are any man made structures around the lake, they will be gathered around them as well.

Deep water bite this time of year.

My dad had a heated boatdock on Bluestem lake in Pawhuska and seemed like he used to put evergreen trees in the water under the boathouse to fish for crappie in the winter.
