I would have to agree; I'm 63 and I don't remember a more do nothing, argumentative political body as we have now.

I also agree that we have too much government interference in our daily lives---the problem is how do we change it??

Well I'm 59 and this Congress is no worse than any other. It's simply facing more complex problems than any other in history.Of course they are doing nothing, half are right, the other half is wrong and the potus is a clueless socialist. We need to reinvent "states rights" and get the feds out of our lives on social/domestic issues.Quit sending so much of our tax money to Washington.

I'm 63. It's the worst I've ever seen. Ideology over common sense.

How about ideology over the law?

The Constitution is a written instrument. As such, its meaning does not alter. That which it meant when it was adopted, it means now.
S. Carolina v. U.S. , 199 U.S. 437, 448 (1905)

"The public welfare demands that constitutional cases must be decided according to the terms of the Constitution itself, and not according to judges' views of fairness, reasonableness, or justice." -- Justice Hugo L. Black ( U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1886 - 1971).

"It is literally true that the U.S. Supreme Court has entirely liberated itself from the text of the Constitution."
- US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia

And remember,

*"There is no crueler tyranny than that which is exercised under cover of law, and with the colors of justice ..." - U.S. v. Jannotti, 673 F.2d 578, 614 (3d Cir. 1982)

The citizens of America "back in the day" were willing to fight for their rights, nowadays people dont care as long as their cable doesnt get interrupted.

Up until WW II, what Washington did (with some notable exceptions) did not have as direct an impact as today. People were more effected by the County and State governments.

1/3 of the colonist wanted independence, they put principles above cable. 1/3 of the colonist were Loyalist or Tories, they were thankful and praised the king for providing cable. 1/3 of the colonist had no principals or loyalties and didn't care as long as they got their cable. Wonder what the numbers would be in our society today.

Out in the woods.
Can't help but believe that we no longer get the brightest and best leaders running for office. Now days, when someone runs for office, his entire past, his entire family gets raked thru the mud and put up for the entire world to pick at. No one has lived an entirely perfect life and one mistake in your younger years can come back to haunt you in you bid for office. Not many have the intestinal fortitude to fess up to those mistakes, nor is the voting public very forgiving of those mistakes, espically after the opposition whirls up the press against you for the mistake. Then add in the fact that you have to spend millions of dollars to obtain a job that pays at most 335,000 a year and it makes you wonder what it is that they are genuinally after in getting that job. The fundamental thing that must change is that congress and the president are suppose to want to do better for the country by going to DC. Not be set up for life with the best retirement package on the planet. They should have to live under the same laws that they pass as everyone else, be held accountable for their performance while serving and not be able to live like a king after their "service to their country". But when you put power hungry law makers in charge of writing the laws that could and will benifit someone, with no chance of recourse, guess who those laws will benifit?

Who, possessed of any common sense, would want to be a politician in today's world of instant info?

If you fart, some jerk will post the volume and smell to the world on the Net.
