Just got my paperwork today for self coverage, 78% increase from 2016 to 2017.

Premiums: ($383/month)$4607/year to ($683/month)$8204/year, for less coverage than I had 5 years ago.

If Max Out of pocket stays the same, which it won't, that's a minimum of $15,054 before insurance actually kicks in...

Looks like we're all in the same boat.

F'n Democrats.!

I think we pay something like $850 or so per month for family of 3. Well, we did... honestly I don't know if it is going up. But it is a private plan and is the "Gold" tier offered through the company. No company matching or contribution for us, though.

Well, I could start taking money out of my investments every month to pay for it, but that's not what I saved it for. That was so I could enjoy retirement! And, it really, REALLY, ticks me off that they want me to pay twice as much out of pocket and get so much less coverage. I don't know. Still weighing options, but I am looking at possible jobs in the meantime.

What a sad state of affairs. And, there's very little we, in Oklahoma, can do about it. Our votes for national office are essentially meaningless. We can't vote out any Democrats from Congress and we already vote Republican for President.

The problem with Capitalism is that humans run it.

I just checked on the penalty for NOT having health insurance. The formula for 2017 is not out yet but, based on last year's formula, the penalty for NOT having any health insurance would be less than one month's premium! That is, in my case. YMMV

When Obama took office I was paying $197 per month for my health care coverage. It was a HSA qualifying $5000 deductible plan and I had a bunch of options to pick from. I'll be paying $871 per month next year for a plan that is my only option and has less coverage and an even higher deductible if I can't find another option.

I'm also thinking on just dropping it altogether. I sent my tax guy an email yesterday and he told me that they make it very hard to figure the penalty but I would be looking at around 1 months premium as a ballpark number. I'm honestly thinking of dropping and putting cash money in the safe so they don't see it in a bank account and say I don't qualify should something happen and I have to go into O-dontcare.

Our open enrollment hasn't started yet but the union was fighting them on it this year so I'm sure it's going to suuuuuucccckkkk. On another tidbit...I needed a second opinion on something the VA told me. I called KU Med and the first thing they asked me is if I had real insurance or Obamacare.

That's interesting...

I spent the afternoon researching possible options. I've found a plan that I can probably live with that will only cost me about an extra $127 a month. Still nothing set in stone, but I at least feel better about that possibility!
