If you are comfortable with a revolver then why not go from a S&W 637 to a S&W Model 60 or 640 in .357 magnum? Those keep you in J-Frames.
You could also look for a K-Frame of larger revolver.

Actually I was looking at a Taurus 66 blued 4" that has seven shots yesterday. Almost picked it up but I was gonna trade in the shield and I kinda wanted to have at least one semi auto and Revolver. I reload .38 specials and like the 637 as a pocket gun so decided to wait on another Revolver. Definitely gonna get another wheelie later, but I want to "upgrade" from the shield first. Gotta plan out my collection lol.

I have two jobs so selling this gun has been a *****. Might just end up doing a trade in at the shop instead. First time gunsale nerves I guess.

Plenty of reliable and safe 1911s...I just prefer double stack in a gun that big.
This is what I alternate between, Rugar SR 1911 (never missed a beat on maybe 500-800 rounds, I'll call it reliable lol) and my Browning Highpower before cerekote and after. I actually sold this Ruger and bought a Commander model that is also cerikoted desert tan but I cant find the pic.The ruger is single stack 7+1 and browning is double stack and holds 12+1

And after done in burnt bronze.

My preference is hammered guns. I have been through a quite a few in the last 15 years but what I carry now and for the foreseeable future is HKs. You can find a good HK USPc 9mm for around $500 if you look hard enough. The P30sk (My current EDC) is less that $600 new. My favorite and my cool weather gun is the P30 but they run a quite a bit higher.

I love the 1911 but for the price, better carry options are out there.
