Great advice on the gun. I don't think you started anything bad here. I use a Nova now after 12 years of waterfowling. Learned my lesson on autos.
Go with the basics and don't get caught up in the gimmick race. Have fun. A week from Saturday we will be shooting in zone 1... :)

Need a tag along for opening weekend in zone 1????

Buy the very best waders you possibly can. The first time you have a bead of ice on your waders around the water line and you are warm and cozy they will seem like a great buy.

Seems like sage advice...:freezing:

I've got no complaints out of the Redhead Bone-Dry waders at Bass Pro. I bought them off season for about $89 and this will be year 4 in them. No leaks, plenty war, reinforced knees with rubber pad. The only gripe I have with them is that I'm not going to look to good in them if I don't start backing away from the table.

I just bought the big man bone dry waders from bass pro and they are huge. I have to tighten them as much as possible and i still have a ton of room. I'm 6'2 250lbs. I think they cost about $160. I think i would have been better off in a stout size but they didn't have any. The good thing is i can layer up when it get really cold.

I'm pretty big myself. 6'1" and pushing 300. The standard redheads dont fit me. Too much beer I guess. :bigeye:

In order for me to get the right size in regulars, I have to boot up to 14, which fit in the belly, but WAAAAY too big in the boot. The big men's waders fit pretty well. Like he said, they're probably too big, but the boots fit and you can cinch the rest of em down. DO NOT buy them online - try em on in a store first, preferably in similar clothes to your hunting attire. The big mens ones are pricey - double the cost of regulars, but if they're the only ones that will fit, it guess its the price of being "big-boned". Oh well...
