I enjoy what I do, but I understand why there is such a high burnout rate among lawyers. It is a soul draining business in many ways. Clients have totally unrealistic expectations, and can be very vicious. Good employees are very difficult to find. Laws change. It's like the Sword of Damocles constantly hanging over your head. The compensation is you get to help people (even if sometimes they don't realize it) and the money can be good if you run it like a business.
I had intended to go to medical school. I would have liked to have been a cosmetic surgeon.
I always wanted to be a pilot.
I got accepted the the Air Force Academy right out of high school, but quit shortly after arriving (opprtunity 1). After leaving the AFA, i gave up on flying for a while. After a year in college, I decided to join Air Force ROTC to once again try to be a pilot (opportunity 2). I met my wife in college, though, and didn't want to be away from her all the time once we got married, so I didn't put in my application for the pilot selection process. I was already committed to the Air Force though and spent about 3 years as a personnel officer (HATED that career field and didn't have the option of cross training). I got out of the Air Force and have basically been drifting since then, disgruntled and frustrated with all the opportunities I've blown. I have a bachelors and a masters degree, yet I'm currently working for $10/hr. I could probably find a job that pays more, but this job has me working around airplanes, which makes the pay barely tolerable. I am currently going through flight training at OU (working on my commercial certificate at the moment), making this my third (and so far most successful) attempt at becoming a professional pilot.
The aviation industry is so hard to break into though because of the minimum flight hour requirements that so many airlines require (you either pay for your own flying to reach that minimum number of hours or you meet someone who is willing to hire you with low hours until you build enough to move on). I just pray I'm making the right decision by pursuing this and not just chasing an impossible pipe dream. My wife is incredibly supportive, which helps, but at the same time we are living LEAN...paycheck to paycheck. This summer I plan on getting my flight instructor certificate, so hopefully I'll be able to start getting paid to fly by the end of the year (even if it isn't much).

always wanted to be in law enforcement , police officer, sherriff's deputy, etc after making it through 1.5 years of college i could not take sitting in a classroom all day anymore, shouldn't have worked for a year after high school before deciding to go to college, i like what i do now just not wanting it forever.
I wanted to fly for a living, but talked myself out of it. I figured I'd get bored flying for the airlines, primary flight instruction would be fun and rewarding, but doesn't pay much, and I came close to going through Sam Rigg's school to be a crop duster until I made some calls and found out there were no open seats in the state. I have the same blah automotive job I've had since 1980, but the hours and the pay are great.

alway,s wanted to be a fighter pilot,joined the army an became a medic,loved it,helping other people,never looked back
Always and still want to detail cars for a living but now I'm an electro-hydraulic engineer. Basically doing electrical panels for hydraulic equipment and drilling rigs.
