Actually, I have no idea what it is. My 5 year old found it in some shale I had brought in for back filling a retaining wall.

It looks like that is some sort of mortat holding the pieces together. My forst thought was petrified wood, but the whole mortar thing throws that out. How big is it? how heavy?

I had my wife look at it, she is the director of the Sheerar museum in Stillwater. She thinks it is likely either a section of an log home or fencing, most likely log home. that is just based off what we can see here.
