The officer was cutting you a break by reducing the amount of speed he wrote on the ticket. State law will not allow a citation to be put on a drivers record unless they are 11 mph and over the posted speed limit.

Look at the back of your license. In small print, it says "Notify in writing, Driver License Services, P.O. Box 11415, Oklahoma City OK 73136-0415 within 10 days of any name or address change." You could have been cited for not notifying the change of address.

Here is the statute.

Oklahoma Statutes Citationized
Title 47. Motor Vehicles
Chapter 6 - Driver Licenses
Article Article 1 - Issuance, Expiration, and Renewal of Licenses
Section 6-116 - Notice of Change of Address or Name
Cite as: O.S. §, __ __

A. Whenever any person, after applying for or receiving a driver license or identification card, shall:

1. Change the mailing address named in such application;

2. Change the residence address displayed on the license or card issued to the person;

3. Move from the person’s previous county; or

4. Change the name of a licensee by marriage or otherwise, such person shall notify the Department of Public Safety as provided in subsection B of this section.

B. Within ten (10) days such person shall notify the Department of Public Safety in writing of the number of any driver license and identification card then held by the person and, as applicable:

1. Both the old and new mailing addresses;

2. Both the old and new residence addresses;

3. Both the old and new counties of residence; or

4. Both the former and new names.

C. The Department of Public Safety shall not:

1. Change a county of residence unless the person specifically notifies the Department of such change; and

2. Presume that a new mailing address which is a different county than the old mailing address means that the person has changed his or her county of residence, and shall not change the county of residence unless specifically notified of such change.

Sounds like trolling to me.....
Not trolling, I was just trying to see what my options were. I see that there are people like you on this site who just want to judge and be completely non helpful, and then there are people like Brandi who are very helpful. I had no idea that what Brandi had posted would even be an option. Hence why I posted my situation. There is a difference between trolling and posting something to get informative feedback. As I have said once again SEVERAL times I have ALREADY stated that I was going to pay the ticket. Lastly I was not upset at all that I got caught. I was just curious as to what my options might be.

JB, I'm with you... oddly enough reddog1 I'm with you too.
Are you riding with him ,while hes texting and driving?
Is it against the law to knowingly be riding with someone...that you know is breaking the law by texting and driving?
...and speeding while running red lights. Its a varitible crime spree up there.....how do you all deal with the lawlessness happening ?

Well, I keep that in mind when posting here, but the idea of getting out of the ticket because of an incorrect address grates on my nerves.
JB, In regards to your earlier post I wouldn't say really really dumb, just uneducated since this is my first traffic offense. I am sorry if this really got on your nerves, I was just wondering how Oklahoma courts worked as far as mistakes on official documents went. Not to worry, I will pay the ticket. I am certainly not here to frustrate people, just trying to get information and share ideas just like most people on here.

While I agree you should just be thankful that the officer did you a favor and pay up there is another possibility if this is your first ticket. Some cities/municipalities offer a program you can enter into that basically says if you can go for how ever many months without another citation they will drop the first one with court costs still being paid. I don't know if OKC has such a program but you should ask.
THANK YOU for being very helpful. I will look into that. Your answer is the reason that I posted in the first place. And yes! It was very kind of the officer to reduce the infraction.

All I'm riding is a wheelchair in front of my computer at home. And after listening to all of our extreme posts I'd be surprised if firemedic183 stays with us but if he does he's a great guy. And I for one would like to meet him. I mean I've been as hard on him more that most of you and he is still here. Welcome. Really, all of these guys and gals are better than me, but I'm happy to meet ya. Wheelchair and all.

I know you already said you were going to go pay the ticket. I do have a little advice. The LEO did you a favor by dropping the overage which will keep the points off of your license, lessen the fine, and will keep you insurance from going up. If the officer did not drop the overage I would definatly go to court, not because of the address discrepancy, but with your clean record most courts will defer the sentence and let you just pay the fine, or drop it down to 10 over if you were polite and asked. I am just letting you know, because I never even knew to got to court and ask, until the one LEO that would not drop the overage for me told me to go ask the judge.

Seems most city courts don't care if the insurance companys get there money as long as they do. Especially for someone that only gets a ticket every 3 or four years. Had the same situation in march of this year and april of ,06. That was the last two time I got a ticket and neither one would drop the overage. I have been a good boy for the last few years. When I first moved to OKC from this side of the state it was an every six month occurance. Sometimes two in one day.

On a side note there is a short hazing period for this forum. Keep your head up. Most of the guys here are pretty great people and the ones that don't seem to be are good people and just gigging you for a reaction. Welcome to the forum. :yelclap:
