Why haven't you tried some competitive shooting?

while it may be fun my shooting time is a "family affair" me, wifey, and 3 kids. all of us shooting competition would get expensive quickly. for now I'll settle with occasional plinking or an eat n shoot or snack n shoot with members on here.

Quit being so greedy with the ammo. Get those kids shooting! You can load mags and tape targets for them. Junior shooters more often than not actually make money via sponsorship shooting competitive simply because there aren't many of them doing it.

I had just been telling my wife about that video a couple days ago.

I shot a couple of informal IDPA matches, and the Practical Rifle in August. I enjoyed all of it. The unfortunate part of where I live is that the nearest match of any kind is 30+ miles and 45 min away.

Go to a USPSA match. Pistol only is cheaper.

Or go to an IDPA match; the gear requirements are pretty low and you only shoot like 9 rounds per stage.

Also, even if you don't have "competitive" gear, you can still make do:

I'd like to point out that I did not come in last.

I'd like to shoot matches, but need to take that first step. Aside from the first step, I just need to free some time. It looks like a great time!

How can we help you take the plunge?

I'd really like to get into some of these. Sounds like a blast.

It is. I have always enjoyed shooting but when it became a sport it got so much more fun. I finally found a way to measure my abilities or lack thereof with a gun. Plus it's a huge adrenaline dump!

i have tried shooting in 3 matches, enjoyed them for as long as i could last. i am old, fat and not in shape and just cannot stand around for hours as the rest of the squad shoots. if the outdoor ranges would provide a bench or something to sit on while waiting i would be all for it, but my knees and hips just can't take standing around.

Bring a chair and sit. Don't worry about resetting targets. Skinny guys like poop giggle can do that crap.

Seriously, if anybody is on the fence, go out there to a match and give it a shot. We have folks come to ours that won't take that advise, but after the match is over, and they are one on one, nobody watching, we set up a stage and let them go for it. I'm talking the Ponca range, but I'm betting the other ranges in the state will do the same thing.

get out there and do it!

ammo is expensive? yeah that's what I will say next. the kids love to shoot but seriously attention span and patience lacking. I could maybe see my youngest out of all of them enjoying it - dunno bout my boy....the oldest meh she is hit and miss. My money for toys especially for something like this is tied up til after June (wedding).
