Stealing a wheelchair?

I'm tired of going into stores and being stopped on the way out by the people thinking I stealing something. I sit in a titanium wnheelchair and everytime I go out of a store that has those things to check for someone who forgot to pay for something, my wheelchair always make the thing go off. So somebody alway comes over to see what I have. Most of the time I go to look. I don't have a lot of money to spend. i just like getting out of the house. Being retired I don't get to get out like I used to. Especially now that I'm not allowed to drive. But sitting here thinking I did figure out how I could make some money. If I just would go into as place that sells titanium wheelchairs I could leave them mine and upgrade to a new one without much trouble. A new titanium chair cost near $6,000 dollars. I'm glad I have friends like you that I can talk to. thank you all for letting me rant. I just get tierd of getting stopped at WalMart. It doesn't matter which one I visit, I still make the thing beep. Since I deaf i never hear it and someone always has to catch me just before I leave the store. I tell you its embarising.

Do what I do...Just keep walking (rolling in your case I suppose). I have done nothing wrong and I pay for everything. I have had them "chase" me to the parking lot and tell me I CAN'T leave until they check my bags. I tell them write down the tag number and call the police but if you put your hands on me I WILL respond in kind.

That thing really pisses me off.

What's embarrassing is how lousy their system is if a titanium wheelchair will set it off reliably. I'd check the chair and make sure there's not an RFID tag or mag strip stuck to it somewhere. One other thing I've noticed (particularly at Wal-Mart) is that it helps if you don't go through the gate at the same time as other people. The only times I've ever gotten hit by the false alarms are when I've gone through the gate with other people, so I learned to alter my pace to make the gate unaccompanied...

Stan sorry to hear this. Have you checked to see if you have a security tag device located anywhere on that chair? Usually its a flat sticker/ or a little rectangle shaped plastic piece. There is an antenna in the security tag that sets of the towers by the door. Ive never heard of them being set of by a certain metal before. Check the inside of the cushion that you use, maybe they installed one at the place where you bought the chair and forgot to remove it.

What I usually do when something beeps at the exit is go through it as many times as I can before they get to me.
They have to write a report for each time it goes off.
I just tell them I like the sound it makes.
The wife gets steamed though.

Sorry for your troubles.
My first thought was to tell you, go out the in door, but that might Look suspicous.
Then I thought , go to the person that stands by the self check out and tell them you are leaving and the circumstances.
