Just wondering if anyone has shot the Glock 30S yet and how did you like it if you did?

I love my 1911, I practice with it, but something in back mind keeps saying "You will forget the safety when fight or flight mode kicks in"

Maybe I just need more time with the 1911 and the airsoft version drawing and swiping the safety off.

Hell, if you don't practice you may even forget to put you finger on the trigger when you need to shoot.
I've heard a story of a fella pushing on the frame of his G20 trying to get it to shoot an intruder.

But anyways, I had a Glock 30s. It's just a 36 slide on a 30sf frame. I think the xdm 3.8 compact 45 is slimmer and probably more reliable than a Frankenstein gun. Although I never had issues with FMJ's, mine didn't care for my SD ammo of choice so it's gone now. I quit carrying 1911's and other pistols with external safeties for the same reason... It's just more devices in the way of defending my life. I'm all for training with your carry gun but that doesn't make it 100%. Not having an external safety is just one more thing I DON'T need to worry about.

(Don't get me wrong, I love a good 1911 platform, just not for self defense)
Just my opinion, others may vary.

I have a G30S and really like it. Yes it is a G36 slide on an G30sf frame, but it is not the "Frankenpistol" people think it is. People use to combine these two pistols together, and created a pistol that was at times unsafe and unreliable. Glock seized on the idea of this and has made a detailed, machined, tested, and warrantied firearm.

The pistol is a Glock, so the grip might feel big, a lot of people say Glock grips are too big. In my opinion it feels great. I have decent sized hands and do not have a problem with comfort, trigger reach, or firing this pistol. Recoil during firing is acceptable and easy to keep this pistol on target. Carrying capacity is 10+1 or you can use the G21 magazines and have 13+1 (which will make the grip a bit longer, but who does not want more .45acp huh?). I conceal carry this pistol and the weight fully loaded is not an issue for me, though it will depend on your personnel carry style. Easy to break down, clean, and reassemble. Very accurate right out of the box. I have put 500 rounds through my G30S so far with zero problems at this time.

I hope this helped you out. But the only way to really know if you like something is to try it out. Pistol buying choices could be so easy answered if we could fire them before we buy. Check out some of the local ranges that rent pistols and see if you can fire a regular G30 or even a G30sf. That will give you an idea about the pistol. If you like the G30 or fire a G30sf which is the same frame as a G30S then you should like the G30S.

Its a great gun. One of my favorite glocks, though a little thick if your hands aren't medium-large size it might not be for you.

Another thing I will add, (with a glock)the grip angle is different than the 1911 you carry. Springfield xd & xdm have the same grip angle as the 1911, while the glock shares the angle of a Luger,Nambu, Bill Rugers MK I-III

And Zedster, how is it not a "Frankenpistol". It wasn't designed with any new parts. Just parts from other guns, G36 slide assembly, G30sf frame, Gen 4 captive GR assembly. No new parts were made to construct it.

I mean its a glock, most run good, but yes... It's a Frankenpistol in every sense of the word.

I just bought one 2-3 weeks ago from Sooner State Pawn (thanks again, Tommy!). I've put about 100 rounds through it so far and it's performed flawlessly. The rear sight needs a slight adjustment as it shoots left, but no big deal there. To be honest, if you've ever shot a Glock before, it feels like a Glock. No frills, it just does what it's supposed to do and it does it well.

YankeePatriot (I believe is his name) initially reviewed the 30S (or maybe it was just a pre-release opinion) and said that the S stands for "sucker". After he got his hands on one, he admitted that he was wrong and that it's a great little pistol.

I was looking for something to replace my Kimber Ultra CDP II in my carry rotation, because my Kimber is heavy. My 30S is just about the same size, a slight bit thinner than my Kimber, and fully loaded it weighs less than my Kimber does empty. I figured if I'm going to carry something that's not light as a feather, I might as well carry something that offers the max amount of rounds.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 that I've had. I just have a hard time staying with a single gun for too long. It carried great and shot well. Never had any issues with them.

The idea behind the Glock 30S being a "Frankenpistol" originated from people taking a G30sf frame and then putting a G36 slide on it. These pistols were not tested, not mechanically researched/developed and certainly not approved for use by Glock. This resulted in Frankenpistols that were not meant to be fired, had malfunctions, and were not safe by any means. Glock seen that people were doing this and decided to research and develop this pistol themselves. Now what you have is a safe pistol with specific tolerances, machined, tested, and warrantied to work. They might not have changed the 30sf frame, and the slide may look and appear to be a G36 slide, but as stated earlier Glock has done their homework on this and has placed the stamp of approval on it. No one knows if the internals have been changed or tweeked to meet specific tolerances. But I do know that my G30S performs like a champ, 0 problems, and is warrantied by Glock.
