Whoever questions the lethality of a bolt or arrow with a broadhead has obviously never seen a carcass of an animal that was harvested with a properly placed shot. It is just as lethal as a properly placed rifle shot. On the other side, a poor rifle shot, even a magnum caliber, can allow the animal to run off, sometimes untrackable, and slowly expire. Also, those of you who think the culprit should go to prison are probably donors at the local abortion clinic. Who knows if the culprit knew the lion was being taken illegally, if it was. If found guilty by the proper authorities, I believe about a quarter of a million dollars would help the locals better tham having another inmate.

Don't waste your breath. It will fall deaf on the ears of those that put an animal's life above a human life. The local People in Zimbabwe will have less to eat, because the meat from these hunts typically goes to the area villages. Billions of dollars are spent in these African countries in legal hunts. Proceeds work toward conservation of other specie, and the local economy's. Hunters give jobs to the locals as trackers, drivers, skinners, and finally the village gets fresh meat.
The very party that claims to be the champion of the poor and downtrodden have once again risen to keep those people in the deepest poverty, and hungry when going to bed at night.
Sad.
Facts don't matter, he killed a lion so he must atone. I wonder what rules the Zimbabwe trained and licensed guides broke. If rules were broke who is responsible the customer or the guides who owned the business?

That's kind of the conundrum at this point. How much did the hunter know. Your required to hire a guide in Zimbabwe. The guide, (PH) typically handles everything once the hunter lands at the airport. Did the Dentist know the lion was being lured out of a sanctuary? Who knows at this point.
"Luring" an animal out of a "sanctuary" is not an uncommon thing all over the world including the US. Elk migrate out of Yellowstone, and every park in the Rockies. Nobody gets upset when one gets shot. Some even carry radio collars. Hunters in Ok that hunt a "sanctuary" at McAlister AAD are told that there might be some deer with radio collars. Its Ok to take one.

This leader is obviously an idiot if what the above post contains is accurate!!!! That said we don't need to contribute to such idiots ideas by contributing to his kitty by spending money on controlled hunts that take such a Pretoria of animals, many of which are endangered. I am personally against "trophy hunts" outside the US. Many of these things take animals that may very well no longer be with us in another generation. Who put us in charge of participating in the extinction of animals by hunting them so one can hang it on a wall? To me if one believes in the word of God bringing about extinction by choice for one's pleasure is not what His word is about.
