Most every solution to this problem I hear revolves somehow around “hardening the school” or a lot of spending in general.
Most schools have a couple hundred students.
That should equate into a couple of hundred adults who care for them.
Why not offer to let qualified folks from that pool pull security on a volunteer basis. Tell me they don’t have skin in that game. Give one a shotty the other some flavor of rifle. Both a backup. Simple ROE, bad guy shows up with evil intent they are indemnified.
This could be implemented as fast as the cost is low. Expand it to grandparents and I could see this done in shifts.
The secondary positives could be huge.
Imagine the benefits to both the kids as well as the adults. The overall health of the community could be improved.
Why would not a version of this work to help solve this problem.

This sounds good on the surface.
I think if this would be implemented, part of the process would be those parents who are serving as security need to have a parents meeting and say to all parents "if your kid comes to school with a gun I will shoot them, no mercy. When we're having a bake sale and your kid pulls out a rifle I will shoot him right then and there. We're neighbors and everything but my job will be to shoot your kid."
That would be an uncomfortable situation to be in for all involved.

I agree that would be a horrible situation for all involved.
There are probably a dozen easy angles to put just about any solution in a negative light.
I know what I proposed is just something you read on the internet.
A lot more work would need to be put into it especially establishing protocols to vet folks packing in the schools.
Hey, I don’t want Karen bossing folks around at gunpoint anymore than the next sane person.
I am thinking the same people who would volunteer to guarantee the safety of their loved ones will be the ones to push for change.
Things are sounding like all the efforts and money thrown at this problem has not reaped the benefits we had hoped. Is it not time to at least look into a different solution or do we just leave it to the usual crowd of “we must do something”? Who line their pockets while the community buries their dead.
