^^ That's pretty much how I feel. I'm better trained than some, not as much as others. And I figure in an all out SHTF scenario I won't last much longer than the next guy. There's only so much you can do as one person. And I don't have any plans to form or belong to any sort of "clan". So unless I can link up with family or a few friends, who are all several hundred to a thousand miles away, the wife and I are on our own.
I feel like I’d work well under former military LEO leadership of some guys in your age bracket. And yes I know that’s exactly what someone says in the movies before shooting the good guy in the back of the head. But I always feel like there’s strength in numbers

Dunno, as a kid, liked to think I could survive anywhere being a wanna be mountain man. Actually got to live it somewhat when I could go to my Uncles ranch in the summer when a kid and spend a couple of weeks with the bare essentials to make a camp and forage for food by trapping, .410 shotgun and catching some fish from the pond.
Actually pretty comfortable with that concept. Still remember how to make the deadfall and Spanish windlass type of traps from nothing but some wood and a knife for small game.
You don't need a $200 rig to catch fish. Green walnut hulls will kill them and is not toxic to humans. Fish traps easy to make from nothing.
I know how to knap flint and make tools/weapons.
One just has to get away from the urban areas where the people starving will kill for a scrap of bread and start from fresh. I have locations in mind.
I doubt seriously that SHTF where it goes back to the stone age will never happen in our country but there are folks right now living in that scenario. It isn't pretty.

@pstmstr @Whoisitrlly I think you both need to kiss and make up. Whoever pulls away from the kiss first is they gay one. Yeah yeah I know, “well caliberbob your gay for bringing this kissing thing up!” Not true at all. I’ll be there watching to referee the kiss.
I don't kiss guys but if "it" shows up at Doc's barber shop about 9 this Thursday we can have a mini OSA meet up.

^^^^^ THIS!!!! I’ve heard so many people be like “I’d die without AC”. Well guess what, 100+ years ago before such a luxury there were babies and elderly people that survived it. They didn’t know any better! It got hot in the summer and it sucked. The biggest issues we have in todays culture in America is we are so soft because of how good life is. Dennis, you remind me of my previous neighbor. He was one of two boys and his mother passed away when he was young and he just became very independent. He also went to his uncles and got permission from his dad to go live in the woods for 3 weeks. All he had was a couple cans of beans and a .22 with a brick of ammo. Dude, that would be wildly uncomfortable for me to do lol. But that’s why preparedness is so crucial

We didn't have AC when a kid, just a swamp cooler that didn't work in high humidity that Oklahoma is famous for. The schools were not air conditioned. We used fans and open windows, and so on, even into high school.
We definitely didn't have AC or the best amenities when in the Army back in the day. You made it through your day with nothing fun or pleasant. The latest vets playing in the sandlot had little to no shade and lots of heat to "get comfortable" in. Life was miserable, but one just moved on.
People are so pampered now that they think they can't survive without AC and all the stuff that makes life good now.
