I got a Jeep I'd like to take down and maybe do some light off-road exploring and even fishing if I feel like and wondered if there was any access to trails near or at the river? I am not a teenager and don't want to trespass nor take my kids into somewhere where a buncha meth heads hang out either. Perhaps even some of the local 4x4 clubs have a spot they go?

Thanks

There's two locations to get on in Norman. 1 off SW24th by the church off hwy 9/35. Not sure as to the legalities of access there. The other is via farmer off Jenkins. He's a nice guy but doesn't grant access easily. The other location is in Noble, where a guy charges $5 to allow you through his land to the river. Not real sure of his location.

There is access to the river somewhere around the US77 bridge between Lex and Purcell. I don't know exactly where, but I frequently see vehicles (ATVs and 4x4s alike) on/in/near the river when I'm crossing the bridge (ATVs are all over the place, but 4x4s are usually north of the bridge). I know there's an ATV place just south of the bridge on the east (Lex) side that has access, but I don't know what their rules/policies are.

I know there's a lot of contention about access to/by the land west of the river, but that's about all I can tell you about that.

Driving in the river bottom during the winter months is very risky. The water table is higher and the risk of getting stuck in quick sand and possibly submerging a vehicle is a lot higher in the winter.

Just don't be shootin' near Norman in the river bed. TriCity gun Club will call the Sheriff or that is what they have told us to do...

I remember years ago in the river bed off I-44. We used to drive dune buggys and shoot guns there. AAhhh the good ole days.

We go to sundog trails that is in Lexington they charge $10. They have a lot of cool trails and obstacles as well as river access. There is a guy by river wind that is letting people access the river from there but I can't remember the name of the place. I bet you could find it on google
