Cold morning with lots of snow on the ground NW of Piedmont. I sat in a stand over a feeder heavily frequented by doe. The snow made it bright enough that I could see well by 6:10am. Starting at 6:20am, I had little bucks cruising by every 30 - 40 mins, noses on the ground, checking the feeder, freshening scrapes, then trotting on along the field edge until they went out of sight. 5 bucks by 9:00am and not a single doe. Then a doe and 2 fawns came in at 9:20 and stayed until 10:00am, but nothing ever came by to check them. Finally headed out at 11:00am.

Cameras show the big bucks checking doe at the feeders at daylight, but not during the day yet. Caught a good fight on camera between 2 mature bucks. Seen several that are all roughed up, and one of my big 8s lost one of his antlers.

Rut is not quite here yet, but it is getting dang close.

I sat in stand all day dark to dark on Friday November 9, saw 7 or 8 deer, no real rut activity witnessed. Sat in a different stand Sunday from 6 am to 2pm and saw one mature buck just walking through, I don't know whats happening, hearing reports elsewhere that deer are chasing.

All of my buck activity has been after dark 12:20 am, 2 am, 3 am, 5:40 am etc. Yesterday was different a nice mature 9 pointer started chasing my girls during the late morning and afternoon. I had 2 opportunities to have a shot with my crossbow but I passed as both were too far for a clean kill. Today I had a 6 or 8 pointer with half of a rack missing wearing the girls out going around and around and around the place. Several times I could have harvested him. His partial rack was symmetrical and appeared to be a 2 1/2 year old. I turned him down because, frankly, I had too much work on my plate to take the time to clean the fella. One of my does is coming into estrus because of her actions and the way she is raising her tail. She also is the one that the 2 bucks have focused on. The 4 does are sticking tight together as if to protect the one coming into season. "Butthead" is an 18 month old agressive buck with a 2 x3 Rack that is a cull and needs to go. I may take him by Thursday ifn he shows his face or wait until next week when I have more time.
Sticky - we need to hunt together next week. You have a bucket list item that needs to be fulfilled while we can.

Someone flipped the switch this morning in Piedmont!

I had my shooter chasing a doe back and forth at 70 yds, but he would not come to a grunt, bleat or rattling. He was chasing her and two doe were chasing him. Went on for an hour, back and forth, back and forth...then he finally chased her off the place.

A buddy of mine sent me two videos of similar activity here this morning.

It is definitely on now.

I had two 140" plus come within 75 yards yesterday morning. Both were following separate doe. One non typical and the other a heavy and wide 9. I saw a 8 pt seeking a doe this morning. Dang goathead sand spurs are everywhere and you find them in the dangest places on yourself!
No kidding! I’ve got new patches of the crap all over. Walking in them flips them all over your legs.
Wondering if all the rainfall made the darn things take off?
