Ardbeg Corryvrecken is a Islay that my son likes, far too peaty and smoky for me though. I like the Speyburn 10 year old single malt, it has good ratings and a lower price than some of the better known brands.
I have only tried about a dozen single malts at this point including Ardbeg 10 but these two are my favorites so far...

The best value in blended scotch, IMHO, is Teacher's Highland Cream.

It is very inexpensive and quite tasty with a decent amount of peat from the Ardmore that is 40% of the blend.

For blended, I have to recommend The Famous Grouse. Single Malt choice depends on my mood. I do like the peat. Oban is a fave.
