I sanded the buttstock and forearm, stained with Special Walnut stain and finished with 7 coats of Tru-Oil. Made a .44-40 shot shell based on 1Mathom1’s advice. 1cc of TrailBoss, a hair over 1.5cc of #8 shot. Shot pretty good, would probably take out a gopher or rat at close range.

All I’ve done to the steel parts is removing rust with brass brush and oil. Not gonna go any farther. Im afraid I’d have to remove too much steel to get the pits out.
If you haven’t watch Mark Novak’s YouTube channel he shows how to convert the patina aka red rust/oil to black rust that’s much easier to remove with a soft carding wheel or steel wool. The method will preserve the steel and what’s left of the original finish without removing the good steel.

Is your single shot a smooth bore, or rifled?

How about a run-down of the specifics please? (Make, model, caliber, etc etc.)

Thank you!
👍
Harrington&Richardson, .410 shotgun or .44-40 shotshells. Says .410-44 on the barrel. Made approx 1940. Smooth bore. I suppose you could shoot regular.44-40 or .44Spcl cartridges through it, but I don’t plan on it, nor would I recommend it.
