The 6.5 CM was made popular by the PRS crowd back in the day due to its better LR performance than the 308. The 6.5 quickly fell in popularity within that crowd to the 6mm.

It’s funny how when you think of a 6.5CM shooter you visualize a man bun in sandals but when you do the same with a 260 Remington shooter he’s someone like Jim Shockey. Identical ballistic and all.

You are vary correct. The 6.5 was designed by PRS shooters for its high BC and lower recoil. Then marketed by Hornady. We all know they were going to make hunting rounds for the 6.5. Im not mad i hunt with a 270. Hell most will hand there kids a 6mm.

140gr Accubond.....the 260 Rem outruns the 6.5CM by 100 fps.....how is that identical?

look at the powder selections.
Different cartridges, different powder behavior. Ramshot Hunter is shared by both, and it's still nearly 100 fps difference.

Both cartridges are pretty similar with the 260 Rem having about 75 yards more effective range with the 140 Accubonds. Add in AI to that 260 and the gap widens even more.

Personally my Savage started out as a .308 and was ringing steel at 1240 yds. I rebarrel to the 6.5cm in my garage myself and was hitting the same targets as before just a little flatter shooting.

Personally i hunt whitetail with 25/06 100grn bullet. My brother has 280rem hes killed a bunch of hogs deer and 2 Elk with, usually one shot kills with Barnes X bullet.

Good grief! When you compare apples to oranges of course you can get different ballistics here. Why don’t you compare both shooting IMR 4350 and notice the difference in density.

I’ve shot a 260 for far too long to argue over which is better a 6.5CM or 260 Rem.

I think you should get your mind out of reloading manuals and start collecting real world ballistic data. Or do you not keep a data book in your shooters bag?

I think if i saw that happen even once i would immediately question what rounds were used.. .30 caliber softpoint at .308 velocites ( and .30-06 is about 90 fps faster in factory loads)- have killed more game in north america than probably any other.. and if i thought that sucked would i go to the same size case with smaller bullets, the same bullet designs and almost the same velocities? No. Good luck
Nope 22 Long rifle has killed more. Bullet placement is critical with any round.
