Oooooooohhhhhh ... didn't know there was a 'light weight' version. What we used was the heavy granules ... I think it came in a plastic jug.

This stuff creates a barrier around your house. Any insect crossing it will die, ants included. It's also useable in the home with restrictions.
I'm gonna keep an eye out, but I put down the border and the "active" area I saw 2 days ago shows not an ant in sight. That Amdro may have just done the trick. I still have the yard stuff to put down, too.
The hose-sprayer stuff from most brands do a fine job too. I spray the house with it, and a small perimeter around it.
+1 on Amdro - I keep a jug around and have totally killed out some red ant hills.

I never had red ants harm the house.
I actually think the killing of those big red ants is a bad thing unless they are hurting something.
The Horny Toad is not seen much anymore because it's diet consisted mostly of the red ant which is also a good ant for removing flesh from deer skulls or from turtle shells .
