Any bear you encounter around here is most likely will be about the size of your dog and also should not be aggressive toward you. I would carry a quart of gravy to toss on it and tell your dog it is time to eat.

We spent 10 days on Victoria Island BC a couple of years ago.
They have the highest concentration of black bears per square mile than any place on earth.
Hiked many miles, and drove hundreds. We saw one beside the road.

Dennis is right I lived on Vancouver island for nearly 10 years camped & explored all over it i can remember seeing black bear maybe 3 or 4 times, elk & deer were a dime a dozen had a cow elk stick her head in our tent at sunrise one morning don't know who was more shook up
You want to see black bear in BC go to the dump they tend to migrate there for easy pickens
