And would it get approved by the FDA?

Verapamil and insulin are already FDA approved. The makers of verapamil can't market it for for insulin use without FDA approval.............your doc can still prescribe it though for diabetes though.

The pump has been awesome, hope it works out for diabetic newbies!!

The subjects for the clinical trials are Type 1 diabetics.
I clicked through to the source article
http://www.uab.edu/news/innovation/item/5508?+frontdoornews

I read that too. But the research doesn't even discuss the autoimmune problem.
I then went here: (sorry about the bad link - the website stripped the link)
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=verapamil+diabetes+research+medscape&l=1

Read the comments. Specifically this:
Dr. Justin Hamlin, They're clearly not talking about autoimmune type 1. They're talking about type 1 that people develop after having poorly controlled type 2 for too long.

Ah, I didn't know there was more than one type of type 1 diabetes.

Thanks for the clarification

Not every Type 1 is autoimmune, I tested negative. My islets just quit producing at age 20, and not overweight.

I wonder what dosage of Verapamil they will be using, I was on that for about 8 years due to heart rhythm problems, soon after stopping I wound up with diabetes, then after a few years I now take 4 shots a day to keep my sugars down.

I am fat and do not move around a lot, if I could that would sure help. It sucks that many of the meds for diabetes cause weight gain, not like we need the help with that. :)

Good news. They have already been curing it in Germany for years using stem cell therapy though. It's just illegal in the U.S.

That's a new one on me. Could you please find some background info/source/link?

I know they've been testing the encapsulated beta-cells in New Zealand for a while. They use special pig islet cells.

I also know about the encapsulated beta-cells in San Francisco under testing. They use stem cells.
