Just FYI - this testing is for Type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes can kill off beta-cells due to bad diet and eventually progress to Type 1 diabetes if not maintained.
The conventional definition for Type 1 diabetes (Juvenial/ Early onset) is due to an auto-immune attack killing off the beta-cells, which is a completely different attack mechanism.

The subjects for the clinical trials are Type 1 diabetics.
I clicked through to the source article

The trial, known as “the repurposing of verapamil as a beta cell survival therapy in type 1 diabetes,” is scheduled to begin early next year and has come to fruition after more than a decade of research efforts in UAB’s Comprehensive Diabetes Center.

Sweet! Now I can eat all the Mickey D's I want!

I work with a person that takes off almost every week. They blame it on their diabetes "type 2". This week they had Mickey D's 4 days in a row and they are about 100lbs over weight.

That said. I would love to see a cure. I have a good friend that has been battling type 1 forever.
