I love the .270 because that is what my Dad and Mom bought me as a kid and this will be my 35th year hunting with it. It has killed elk, bear, antelope, deer, coyotes, jack rabbits...who knows what else. Been a great rifle.
.308 that started it's life as a Turkish 8mm.
Took a gunsmithing class at the VoTech a few years ago and made a .308 deer rifle from a $60 Mauser.
Does the job for me. Have to admit, I have never been deer hunting with the other calibers that others mention but all sound like worthy deer getters..
I will have my 30-06 in the woods along with a Smith & Wesson 629 Classix DX .44 Mag this year. Will use the pistol if one gets close enough this year. My dad loves his 243 though.
