I am going with a .308 win this year. It is heavy gun though, Savage 10 FP with McMillan A5 stock. It weighs about 14 lbs and is not fun to carry. Good thing I hunt from a blind.

I am looking into getting a 7mm rem mag for a good all around hunting rifle that will do it all. I still have the trusty 30-30 and 300 savage to fall back on.

I take two guns to camp:

First is my Model 70 in 30-06. Use it when it's wet or damp out. (stainless and Composite)

My favorite is my Rem 788 Carbine in 7mm-08. Awesome shooter, and accurate as all hell.

My all time favorite for OK whitetails is .243, so that's how I voted. This year, I will be carrying a .22-250 since I have a 'new' one, and found a load with 65-grain bullets that will really shoot. I've taken deer with .243, .22-250, .222, 7x57, .303 British, .30-06, .300 WinMag, .338 WinMag, .264 WinMag, .45-70, .357 and probably some others I'm forgetting at the moment. BTW - I choose my shots very carefully with those smaller calibers!
