Listening to the report of what the house looks like burning, if that single gun shot wasn't a self inflicted ending he's surely dead now if he's inside. I've been through some fire fighter training and there's no way a human could survive in the heat that is inside that house.

Siege possibly? At least that would give him a chance to kill himself and avoid lots of trouble.
