I’m looking for a small but really powerful flashlight that shoots a beam quite a ways out, I don’t mind paying for quality but just don’t know what all is out there and worth the money ? I know there is a wealth of knowledge on here and need your input ?! Thanks !!

How big of light are you looking for, I mean a pen light or something like a maglight or bigger?

You want handheld or weapon mounted? I recently bought a Cloud Defensive Rein 3.0 and holy cow its powerful. Like 1250 lumens and 100,000 candela. But its a WML and PRICEY. Overall I really like the color temperature of the Cloud Defensive lights. Made in the good ol US of A too, and they have good deals in the clearance section and for LEO/MIL.

If I wanted to ball out on a handheld, I would get one of these: https://www.clouddefensive.com/product/mch-duty-ho-df/

Too high?
Malkoff makes great stuff if you want handheld. A little dated on tech, but real nice finish, fully potted, semi modular, durable, and made in America as well.

Cheaper?
I have a chinese (I think?) Fenix 18650 light thats several years old, its a real nice light, and I like it quite a bit. Worth giving the brand a look.

Cheaper than that?
Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA is a pretty good light. I like being able to use AA or CR123's with it, and its a handy size. Made in china though.

There was one that someone noted on this site a year (2016) or so ago 1/2 price from amazon and everyone recommended this particular flashlight. Do not buy a rechargeable flashlight because if you were working in the dark...say, your attic. It abruptly will go out and you'll be up the creek in the dark and have to grope your way out of the attic. I found it!

I've got a dozen of these Brauns. from Harbor Freight. I know, I know, but let me tell you they throw some light! They're dirt cheap and last forever too. I've only had two go out on me because the back button broke.

Drop em in the mud, they work. Bang them in the car door? They work. Drop them out the car window at highway speeds? Well, I never found that one, but some lucky bastard got a good flashlight that day.

I like the Streamlight 88040 ProTac HL. It'll throw a heck of a lot of light quite some distance. I once used it on a dark, although not stormy, night at my folks' farm with a scattergun to reach out and touch a skunk at about 100'.

I'm a borderline flashaholic. I have several, but if I had to pick one light, just one, to save my life with. One that I know is gonna work everytime I hit the switch, it's my Surefire G2X Tactical.

It's a single mode 600 lumens, powered by a pair of CR123 Lithium batteries with a throw of 187 meters/613 feet/204 yards. You're gonna pay just under a C note for one ($80 on Amazon right now) but it's money well worth it.

Stay away from rechargeables. Yeah, they might save you a few bucks on batteries, and they might even offer you more lumens/candellas. But like @John6185 said, when it's dead, it's dead and you're screwed! With my Surefire G2X Tactical, I just carry a spare pair of batts. If it dies, I just throw in some fresh, back in business!

Of course, I also carry a couple of small, unobtrusive backup lights...a Streamlight Microstream and an Olight i3e. Both are teeny, tiny AAA lights that you hardly know are there, but can be life saving at times.

Good luck with your flashlight fishin'...it's a helluva lake!
