Freehand knife sharpening

Use a lansky myself. Always had hell with just a stone.

I use an Eze Lap diamond sharpener and finish with a ceramic rod. It is quick and easy.

Has anyone ever tried the filiment out of a high pressure sodium light bulb? It works great and will put an edge on a knife or broadhead quick and fast that is all I use anymore. And best of all if you know an electrician he might just give you a used one for free.

I have some of those, that are 3/8" diameter, as well as some from our O2 probes at the plant that are 1/4" diameter. Great for touch ups.
I freehand, and always have on a stone. I have a diamond impregnated hone, to start them with, and finish with a hard Arkansas stone.
