eastern cicada Hornet. We had many in the flower beds at work in downtown Tulsa. I must have killed 4 or 5 a year swatting them down with my hand .
They dwell underground and fun to watch as they drag large locusts underground bigger than them. They would buzz you sometimes but really aren’t aggressive like the pack of bumblebee that chased me at wingon one year. I found out you do stumble and almost fall in terror like the movies. I gave them a taste of 12 ga and never got stung. One on one fine but they looked like a pack of peaceful protesters they we pissed for some reason.

We've killed two of those in the last couple of weeks, and I don't remember seeing any before that since I was a kid.

@Cowcatcher I've got one just like your picture sitting here in a see thru pill bottle that I smacked with my sweat rag while messing around out in the yard back in July......just from looking at the stinger I'd sure hate to get a whole flock of them pi$$ed off at me.

We should unleash a truck load of those tarantula hawks on the rioters. That would be a video I'd watch over and over.
Ok, I shoulda looked at the pic closer (I didn't notice the yellow on the body). 
The two we killed were solid black with orange-ish wings. What you have there may be a hornet.
