Before I retired, part of my job was yearly inspection of the schools in my district. There are three on the S.E. side of Okc where the only English I heard spoken was between me and my “escort”. Every classroom was filled to capacity with hispanic kids and none of the teachers were speaking English.
Mixed emotions? Yes. Did I want to do something about it? Yes. Did I do anything about it? No. I had too many years on the job and too close to retirement to put my job in jeopardy.
Does something need to be done? Yes. When I went through CLEET and the subject of illegals came up, the question was asked if we caught one, what were we supposed to do? Our answer was that if it wasn’t a felony, don’t bother calling immigration cause they didn’t have the manpower to do anything about it or the jail space to hold them.
